Barak boycotts Sharm El Sheikh summit

The Israeli prime minister Ihud Barak boycotted the three-way summit urged by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Sharm El Sheikh - Egypt.

An official Israeli source said that Barak headed to Tel Aviv from France and did not head to Cairo because Palestinian President Yasser Arafat refused to sign an agreement to end up the continuos violence works.

The Israeli official said that a draft agreement was reached yesterday evening during a three-way meeting among Barak, Arafat and US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright yet the top Palestinian negotiator Yaser Abd Raboh negated reaching any agreement with Israel saying that there was no response to the Palestinian demands concerning creating an International investigation of the violence works.

The three-way meeting took place in Paris as tension prevailed regarding the events in the occupied Palestinian lands.

Arafat and Albright arrived at Sharm El Sheikh to attend the summit urged on by the Egyptian President Mubarak yet Barak boycotted it.

Egyptian sources said that communications are being held to persuade him to change his boycott to come at Cairo to put an end to the disputes with the Palestinians.
