Morocco and Argentina sign several cooperation agreements

Morocco and Argentina signed in Rabat Tuesday three major agreements on trade, fisheries and cooperation between the Moroccan Export Promotion Center (CMPE) and argentine counterpart.
The documents were initialed by foreign affairs and cooperation minister Mohamed Benaissa and external relations, international trade and religion minister of Argentina during the closing ceremony of the joint commission held in Rabat since early this week.
Benaissa underscored esteem and consideration King Mohammed VI and President Fernando de la Rua have for each other and said the commission works were successful with the adoption of a large number of projects in the sectors of agriculture, fishery, housing, city planning, energy and mines, industry, equipment, tourism, investment, culture, education, scientific research and vocational training.
We call economic operators to exert more efforts and give new blood to bilateral cooperation, he said saying the two countries committed themselves to tripartite cooperation involving regional financial institutions from Latin-America, the Arab World and Africa.
Giavarini recalled the meeting of Prince Moulay Rachid in New York during the Millenium Summit and voiced satisfaction at the atmosphere which prevailed during the commission works, convergence of views on major issues and the drive the two countries have shown in strengthening bilateral relations.
He saw the session as a "success" and said his country's exports to Morocco should increase. They stood for a mere 1.30% of the kingdom imports in 1998 and dwindled to 0.66 % in 1999. Moroccan exports towards Argentina were fell of 61% from $ 10.5 million in 1998 to $ $ 4.1 Million in 1999 making global trade exchanges stand at $ 70 million.
The Argentine minister arrived Monday in Rabat on a three-day visit to the Kingdom to chair the joint commission meeting with peer Benaissa. He was received by Prince Moulay Rachid and met premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi and fishery minister Said Chbaatou.
