Palestinians refute Israel's withdrawal from Palestinian positions
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 10/4/2000
The official in charge of preventive security in the Palestinian government Muhammad Dahlan on Tuesday denied news that the Israeli army had withdrawn to the positions where it was positioned before the beginning of confrontation. He added that what Israel has done is aimed at misleading the world public opinion.
Dahlan explained that what happened is misleading for the international community and that the withdrawal of the Israeli forces for 100 meters backward was just to pretend that the state of tension was eliminated. Dahlan stressed that redeployment means the return back of the army to its positions before the beginning of the confrontation.
He added that Israel's non- commitment to that means that they still have the intention to continue the operations of killing the Palestinians. He considered the Israeli accusations against the Palestinian government as lies and mere deception.
On the American position concerning the events Dahlan described the US position as biased in favor of Israel. He said that the US has not made a clear condemnation of Israel, rather it only condemned Sharon in a very shy way. He held Barak responsible for what had taken place in al-Aqsa mosque and the followed massacres against the Palestinians.
Security and military officials from the Palestinians and Israeli sides met on Monday night and agreed to maintain a cease fire including the withdrawal of the Israeli military units to their positions where they used to be before the beginning of the recent confrontation.
