Kuwait says it supports lifting of sanctions against Iraq
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 10/3/2000

Kuwaiti information minister, Saad Bin Teflah Al-Ajmi, on Monday stressed in Cairo that Kuwait supports easing the suffering of the Iraqi people, noting that "it would be of the first countries to benefit from lifting the UN-imposed embargo against Iraq."

Kuwaiti news agency quoted the Kuwaiti official as saying following talks with Egyptian peer Safwat al-Sharif, Iraq needs to abide by Security Council resolutions adopted following its invasion of Kuwaiti before international sanctions are scrapped off.

On flights to Baghdad, the Kuwaiti minister said if the planes were aimed at delivering humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people, "we support extending aid to Iraq"

Regarding the convocation of an Arab summit, he expressed support to Arab solidarity, noting that kuwait backs the holding of such a gathering and that contacts are continuing in this regard. Al-Ajmi's talks with his Egyptian peer touched on technical media cooperation to launch the Kuwaiti cultural satellite channel early 2001 through the Egyptian Nilesat.

The Kuwaiti news agency KUNA said a team of experts is due to meet in Cairo this Tuesday to discuss technical steps of the project.
