Mauritania launches first mobile phone network

Mauritanians will be able, starting Wednesday, to get mobile phones, announced MATTEL, a Mauritanian-Tunisian telecom company.
In a first stage, only the capital inhabitants will be able to use the mobile phone services at a subscription fee ranging between $ 230 and $ 480, including the phone set price.
MATTEL and a Mauritanian telecom firm, which will launch shortly its own mobile phone network, are engaged in a fierce competition over the mobile phone market.
MATTEL has invested some $ 50 million, including the license which cost $ 28.5 million.
