Moroccan plane lands in Baghdad
Iraq-Morocco, Politics, 10/3/2000

A Moroccan plane carrying humanitarian assistance to Iraq landed this Tuesday at 10.30 local time in Baghdad airport.

A delegation of 34 representatives of political parties, trade unions and media were on board the plane that was sent by the non-governmental "Moroccan committee of support to the Iraqi people."

The initiative, "taken in solidarity with the Iraqi people," is meant to break the 10-year long embargo enforced against Iraq and "show the deep brotherly bonds existing between the Moroccan and Iraqi peoples."

It also came to express a strong will to contribute to the lifting of the unfair embargo, says Ali Karimi, member of the committee. The plane will return to Morocco on Wednesday.

This is the third Arab flight to Iraq in a week, after a Jordanian and Yemeni planes. Russia and France also sent airliners to Iraq.
