Moroccan flight to Baghdad postponed to Tuesday
Iraq-Morocco, Politics, 10/2/2000
The flight of a Moroccan plane to Baghdad, in solidarity with the Iraqi brothers, initially scheduled for Saturday was postponed to Tuesday, said the Moroccan committee of support to the Iraqi people, which is organizing the trip.
The delay is due to needed preparations prior to the flight that is expected to carry humanitarian aid meant to alleviate the sufferings caused by 10 years of embargo.
The plane will also carry delegates of political parties, trade unions and journalists.
The committee explains that the move comes to "consolidate the international dynamic for the lifting of the embargo and the normalization of Iraq's relations with its international environment."
For the committee chairman, Mohamed Lakhssassi, the flight is a strong signal to the UN Security Council and the Arab League to denounce the embargo and alleviate the suffering of the Iraqi people.
The initiative, supported by the Moroccan government, is meant to activate Morocco's role in lifting the blockade against Iraq and will enable Moroccan politicians, trade unionists and cultural figures to consolidate friendship, brotherhood and solidarity bonds with Iraq, he added.
