Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak will address the nation on October 5 on the anniversary of the October 1973 victory, and on October 17 on the eve of the People's Assembly elections. Algerian Merah Benida on Saturday became the sole Arab athlete (men and women) to win a gold a medal in the Olympic games currently held in Sydney. Nobody gave Merah Benida as one of the runners-up for the Olympic title of the women's 1,500. But the Algerian defied all her challengers, including the intractable Romanian Gabriella Szabo to bag the title in 4:05.10, ahead of another Romanian Violeta Szekely (4:05.15). The Paris- based al-Muharrir news issued on Friday said that for the first time since 20 years there are rumors in the ruling system circles in Baghdad that the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein told his aides that he is intending to make an Arab tour and may be an international tour.
