Iraq denies to constitute a threat against Kuwait
Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 9/30/2000
Iraq's vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan on Thursday in Caracas denied that Iraq constitutes a threat to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia but he renewed his accusations against Kuwait of stealing its oil.
In a press conference he held following the conclusion of OPEC summit, the Iraqi vice- president said that the USA is the one who creates such claims in order to keep its forces and those of Britain in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia besides perpetuating the sanctions on Iraq.
Ramadan considered the compensations to Kuwait for war damages, and prescribed on Iraq as, " in reality a theft from Iraq. A theft in many forms. There is a theft of oil barrels and conditions of investing oil," in remarks to the technological means the US provides Kuwait for exploring oil.
Ramadan, on the other hand, stressed that there is no contact between Iraq and Kuwait neither in Caracas nor anywhere else.
He added that OPEC leaders whom he asked to take a position against the embargo against Iraq in order to maintain the stability of the oil market backed the idea except Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, noting " therefore and as a result of that no call to stop the embargo was adopted because such a decision should be taken unanimously and not by a majority.
Before the OPEC's summit meeting in Caracas Iraq had accused Kuwait of stealing 300,000 Barrels of oil per day from the borders ' oil wells.
