Lebanese premier opens South Lebanon development support conference
Lebanon, Economics, 9/29/2000

Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss on Thursday in Beirut opened the Non Governmental Organization NGO's conference to back development in South Lebanon. It is organized by the Italian government and the UN development program.

The Lebanese premier underlined the importance of this conference in supporting the activities of the Lebanese government , to this effect, he explained that there are basic needs required by people of the liberated areas that NGO's cannot ensure and therefore an international conference for the donor states should be convened.

He regretted the postponement of the donor states conference which was due to be convened immediately after the conference of the NGO s, noting that merging of the liberated part of south Lebanon with the homeland is of a great geo-strategic importance that should receive special backing from the international community.
