Quebec's vice-premier calls for more trade with Morocco
Morocco-Canada, Economics, 9/28/2000
Quebec's vice-premier and state minister of economy and finance Bernard Landry called for more trade between Morocco and Quebec saying exchanges ought to match excellent diplomatic ties.
In a press-conference in Casablanca Wednesday Landry urged decision-makers and entrepreneurs on both sides to go beyond tokens of friendship and set to work in a genuine partnership.
Quebec, and Canada at large, can use their international know-how to help the Moroccan private sector to enhance its competitive edge and make the most of the agreement on the 2010 free-trade zone passed with the European Union, he said.
The vice-premier recalled how important is the human bridge saying 60,000 Moroccans live in Quebec which grants the kingdom 125 higher-education scholarships every year.
Landry led his country's delegation to a two-day seminar in Casablanca gathering Quebec firms in information technology, energy, environment, consulting vocational training and higher education with Moroccan peers.
