Princess Lalla Meryem undertakes humanitarian and social actions in Kosovo
Morocco, Culture, 9/28/2000

Morocco's Princess Lalla Meryem, chairwoman of the social services of the Royal Armed Forces and of the national committee of support to Kosovo, launched on Tuesday several humanitarian and social actions in Kosovo.

The princess, who was accompanied by her son and her daughter and by Royal advisor, Mrs Zoulikha Nasri, visited the pediatrics hospital where she distributed clothes and school stationery to the young patients and medical equipment and drugs to the hospital. She also donated a deaf child a hearing-aid device. Other donations were given to support Islamic endowments ($ 7,000), the local youth and sports association and the Imams.

She also visited the game room, equipped by Moroccan non-governmental organizations, and Elena Gjica school, in southern Mitrovija, which was also restored thanks to a donation of the Moroccan civil society. She handed to pupils eye-glasses, school stationery and clothes.

The princess then called on the Moroccan military contingent deployed in Kosovo and attended a lunch hosted in her honor in the presence of Serb and Albanian figures.

During a visit to the Moroccan military hospital, the princess was briefed on activities and health care extended by a team of 10 Moroccan specialists and medical aid.

The princess's visit comes to crown a year of humanitarian and socio-medical actions conducted by the Moroccan military contingent and non-governmental organizations in Kosovo.
