Morocco-Kuwait, Politics, 9/28/2000
Morocco on Wednesday said it will continue to defend Kuwait's unity and security and call for lifting the embargo imposed on Iraq.
"Morocco, which is firmly attached to international legality, will continue to defend Kuwait's unity and security and call for lifting the embargo imposed on the Iraqi people," Speaker of the Moroccan Chamber of Advisors (upper house), Mohamed Jalal Essaid, on Wednesday said in a release circulated after his meeting in Rabat with a visiting Kuwaiti MP delegation.
He recalled initiatives by the late King Hassan II and by King Mohammed VI for the settlement of the conflict between Iraq and Kuwait.
During the meeting, Jalal Essaid and the Kuwaiti MP delegation, led by Ahmed Yaacoub Baker, lauded the "excellent" ties binding Morocco and Kuwait. They stressed the role the two countries parliament can play in fostering and diversifying bilateral cooperation.
The Kuwaiti delegation had conferred with foreign affairs and cooperation minister, Mohammed Benaissa, who announced that the two Arab states are poised to set up a high joint cooperation commission.
