Al-Assad discusses with Moratinos efforts to revive the ME peace

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday in Damascus received the European Union ME peace process special envoy Miguel Moratinos and members of the accompanying delegation. Present at the meeting was the foreign minister Farouk al-Shara.
Talks dealt with the ME peace process current conditions, efforts exerted to revive them towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
Moratinos stressed the readiness of the European Union to make efforts helps in reviving the peace process on the Syrian- Israeli track.
The Syrian President welcomed any European effort that would result in reactivating the peace process and to lead it to its set objective.
He added:" Syria joins its efforts to any efforts aiming at reaching a just and comprehensive peace in the region and that Syria desires today, tomorrow as was before to achieving a just and comprehensive peace."
Later in the day, Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara discussed with Moratinos developments and conditions in the region; the stumbled ME peace process and the importance of reviving the European Union EU role in this process.
They also discussed the EU- Mediterranean ministerial meeting due to be held in November in Marseilles, France, and Syrian- European relations. Stress was laid on the importance of strengthening these relations in all fields.
Following the meeting Moratinos said he had discussed with al- Shara relations between the EU and Syria under the new Syrian leadership. He stressed the political commitment of the EU to back and support the Syrian leadership on the ground that Syria is am effective partner in the ME peace process.
In statements to pressmen he added " there is no peace in the Middle East unless an agreement is reached on the Syrian track," He added " we are working seriously, especially we are passing a crucial phase."
He explained that the European Union works for reviving the negotiations on the Syrian track with the aim to reach a comprehensive peace in the region. He noted that the Syrian and Israeli sides are trying to find out means to resume negotiations on the Syrian track.
