4259 candidates in the Egyptian parlimentry elections
Egypt, Politics, 9/27/2000

The Egyptian interior ministry closed the door before those seeking nomination to the Egyptian parliament elections as their numbers reached 4259 candidates among whom are 90 that were excluded for not meeting the required specifications.

444 candidates represent the ruling national party which is the number of available seats in the parliament, while the other opposition parties presented 428 candidates and 3387 from the independents.

5000 members of the judicial fronts will supervise the elections.

General Mahrous Shebayek, the manager of the general administration of the election in the interior ministry, said that "the membership candidates are not applied on the 90 excluded candidates referring to that the security bodies will take strict and decisive procedures against any legitimacy or outlaw attempts (in the election)."

Judicial sources assured that the elections will be clear and no forgery will take place for the good of the ruling party's candidates.
