Arab League to lift the sufferings of the Iraqi people
Iraq, Politics, 9/27/2000

The secretary general of the Arab League Ismat Abdul Meguid has informed France, the current President of the European Union, the care shown by the Arab League to lift the sufferings imposed on the Iraqi people.

In press statements he made on Tuesday in Cairo, the Arab League chief added that this position was conveyed to the French ambassador in Cairo during his meeting with the Arab League chief.

The Arab League chief stressed that the Arab League welcomes any French, Russian or European efforts or any other effort to lift the sufferings of the Iraqi people.

He made it clear that the Arab League does not consider the French or Russian flights a violation to the international legitimacy resolution because they are not official, because its objective is humanitarian and there is nothing in the UN Security Council resolution which prevents such flights, especially UN resolution 67 of 1991.
