Seize fire as talks between government and opposition begin
Sudan, Politics, 9/25/2000

The Sudanese government said there will be a seize fire in all areas of south Sudan for 2 weeks to begin talks between the government and the public movement for liberating Sudan under the auspice of I.G.A.D in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

Ghazi Salah El Din, the Sudanese information and culture minister said that declaring the seize fire came to create an atmosphere that would allow reaching a peace agreement and to stop the blood shed among the Sudanese.

On the other hand, an opposition Sudanese source said that head of the Sudanese Umma party El Sadek El Mahdi refused proposals by the U.S administration, saying that these proposals include moving the meetings of the opposition to Washington and to adopt the I.G.A.D initiative and to refuse the joint Libyan - Egyptian initiative, adding that El Mahdi informed the US officials with his refusal to all these proposals.
