Syrian trade delegation in Baghdad

Syrian Industry Minister Ahmad al-Hamou has expressed his hope of ending the sufferings of the Iraqi people as a result of the continued sanctions on it since 1990 so as to be able to take its due role in Arab and international relations.

During his meeting on Sunday in Baghdad with several Iraqi officials al-Hamou underlined the importance of effective and rapid move to achieve Arab economic integration and finding out means of backing economic and trade relations between Syria and Iraq. The Iraqi trade minister Muhammad Mahdi Saleh said that Iraq seeks to develop and expand economic and trade relations with Syria in service of the two states' joint interests.

Saleh said that the volume of trade exchange between the two states during the past phase exceeds US $ 500 million. He expressed hope of increasing this volume in the framework of the oil-for-food agreement.

The Syrian minister arrived in Baghdad on Saturday leading a delegation representing Syrian industrial and trade establishments.
