Illegal immigration web dismantled
Morocco, Judicial, 9/21/2000
A web specializing in smuggling people to Europe was dismantled recently by the police in Casablanca.
The six-member web was active in the large city where it hunted people wishing to illegally migrate to Europe in exchange for important sums of money.
The police arrested two people who paid $ 900 to $ 1,500 to the web for their trip to Spanish shores on board small boats, locally known as pateras.
Relatedly, the Moroccan Royal navy intercepted recently off the Moroccan northern shores, near Tangier, a patera with 54 undocumented travelers on board.
The group was handed to the police.
