Morocco, Thailand cultural cooperation debated
Morocco-Thailand, Culture, 9/20/2000

The new dimension of cultural cooperation between Morocco and Thailand is the theme of a seminar, currently held in Rabat, part of the Thai cultural days in Morocco.

Speaking during the seminar, Don Prawadwinai, Information Director at the Thai foreign affairs department, voiced satisfaction over the holding for the first time in Morocco of Thai cultural days.

Relations between Morocco and Thailand are strong, Prawadwinai said, underlining that civilization and culture can help weave strong bonds of cooperation and friendship between peoples.

For his part, Chakrarot Chitrapong, Assistant Secretary-General of the Thai national culture commission, hailed the special interest granted by Moroccans to the Thai culture, noting that the Thai cultural event is meant to promote cultural exchanges between the two friendly countries. He underlined that cooperation should imply local entities.

The official proposed to boost communication between the two countries through involving the media and holding festivals and other cultural events in both countries.

For his part, Othmane Benjelloun, an official from the Moroccan culture and communication department, said the Thai cultural days can be a great contribution to fostering rapprochement between peoples.

Morocco considers Thailand as a model of economic and cultural development, he said, calling for more efforts to consolidate cooperation between the two countries.

A large Thai delegation from the departments of foreign affairs and of national education is attending the days, co-sponsored by the Thai embassy in Rabat and the Moroccan culture and communication department.

During the dedication ceremony, Youssoufi visited various stands of an exhibition at the Rabat Mohammed V theatre. The exhibition displays weaving craft, floral art, sculptures and porcelain painting. The Prime Minister also attended a show of Thai traditional dancing.
