Al-Shara confers with Palestinian official in New York

The al-Ayam daily issued in the occupied Palestinian territories said that a meeting was held on Wednesday between the Palestinians minister of planning and international cooperation Nabil Shaath and the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara, on the sideline of the meetings of the UN General Assembly.
In a telephone call, Shaath told to the paper that al-Shara stressed his country's backing to the Palestinian stances which call for the Israeli full withdrawal up to June 4, 1967 border lines including Jerusalem and al-Aqsa mosque and Syria's backing for the establishment of the Palestinian state.
Shaath continued that it was agreed during the meeting to continue contacts for consultations over ME peace process developments. He said " al-Shara told me that he was happy with the contact made with the Syrian ambassador in Washington during the recent Camp David summit," adding " we have agreed to continue contacts after we talked about common issues."
Shaath explained that the Syrian foreign minister was informed about details of the current contacts with the Israeli side and described the meeting as long, positive and important.
He stressed that Palestine gives top priority to purifying the Palestinian- Syrian relations due to their importance under the current conditions, adding the " views I heard from Mr al-Shara was positive."
On the other hand, Palestinian sources told the paper that there are no talks in this stage about a Palestinian - Syrian summit.
