European desputies are visiting Algeria and Polisario group
Algeria-Morocco-European Union, Politics, 9/16/2000
European deputies from different trends are arriving at Algeria next Tuesday.
The visit comprises Algeria and the western Sahara for 5 days to fulfill the invitation of the Polisario group as they also will visit the refugees' Camps in Tindof before they head to area dominated by the Polisario in the western Sahara.
On the other hand, Moroccan sources assured that the relations between Algeria and Morocco are still frozen and that the diplomatic cables exchanged between Rabat and Algeria since the assumption of power by king Mohammed the 6th and President Abd El-Aziz Bu Taflika did not manage to melt the ice between the two countries especially concerning the activist armed Islamic groups in Algeria. This is despite of not issuing any official stance by Rabat toward what was repeated about a cooperation between the two states to combat the armed group yet Morocco does not agree to the Algerian trend in this field.
An Algerian official said that so far there is no ratified agreement with Morocco concerning this matter and that existing cooperation between the two countries is based on the good neighbor and borders demarcation agreements that were renewed since more than 10 years ago.
