Afro-Arab parliamentary conference calls US to abstain from transferring capital to Jerusalem
Regional, Politics, 9/15/2000

Arab and African members of parliament meeting in Tunis this Sept.12-14 called all countries, particularly the USA, to abstain from transferring their capital in Israel from Tel Aviv to Al Quds (Jerusalem).

For the representatives, the transfer will violate United Nations resolutions and would be a serious breach to the rights of the Palestinian people, of Arab and Islamic nations as well as those of the world Muslims and Christians.

In the declaration adopted at the end of their 9th session, participants invited their countries to hold another Arab-African parliamentary conference on Al-Quds in Amman (Jordan).

They also called the international community and the Middle East peace process co-sponsors (USA and Russia) to respect international resolutions on the Middle East conflict and enforce them in total neutrality and objectivity. Arab and African countries were also invited to "declare immediately their backing to the project to proclaim a Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital.

The Arab-African parliamentary three-day conference brought together legislators from 17 Arab and 15 African countries and 5 regional organizations.

The Afro-Arab parliamentary dialogue was set up in Tunis in 1984.
