Censorship reject the opening film for Alexandria international cinema festival
Egypt, Culture, 9/15/2000
The activities of the 16th session of Alexandria international cinema festival began Wednesday evening in which 22 films compete for prizes in 3 areas 'the Mediterranean Sea', 'the first work' and 'the panorama of the Egyptian films.'
A dancing show designed and directed by Mohammed Shafik was presented in the opening party.
The Turkish film 'political propaganda' was displayed instead of 'A cup of tea with Mussolini' which was chosen for this occasion but the censorship objected because the film was viewed as taking the side of the Jews and its promotion to Zionism.
The festival celebrated this year the Lebanese cinema and it displayed 5 films which are 'Beirut Oh Beirut' by director Maron Baghdadi, 'the Blue House' by Joan Hai, 'Western Beirut' by Zeyad El-Dowaiti and 'the refuge' by the director Rafik El-Hajar as well as 'where to?' by George Nasr.
