U.S.A hopes to reach agreement on free trade with Jordan

U.S diplomatic sources in Jordan said that they hope to achieve large progress in the talks to ratify a free trade agreement with Jordan which is considered an important ally to the U.S.A in the Middle East. The talks began during this week in Washington.
U.S commercial officials said that they will try to settle some issues among which is getting into the service sector and the environmental and labor protection.
The suggested agreement will grant customs exemption for Jordanian goods entering the U.S market in return for similar privileges for U.S exports.
U.S commercial officials said that they expect finishing the free trade agreement with Jordan during the fall.
The trade agreement with U.S.A could gives the Jordanian economy which depends on aid a push which it badly needs by helping attract foreign investments.
The total volume of the commercial exchange between the two countries reached 287 million dollars in 1999 among which are 276 million dollars U.S exports to Jordan in return for 11 million dollars for imports.
