Jerusalem is an occupied land
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 9/14/2000

Egypt's Foreign Minister Amr Moussa affirmed that Jerusalem, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 242 and other relevant resolutions, is an occupied land.

Speaking in a TV debate with Israeli Acting Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami, Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said that Israel is only 50 years old, adding "there was nothing called the state of Israel 3.000 years ago.

He pointed out it is sure that Jerusalem was occupied in the 1967 aggression, refuting Ben Ami's allegations that the 1967 war was in self-defense.

Moussa said that the agreement on Jerusalem should be a good one that with the sense that Israel would not impose its sovereignty on the Holy shrines and Old Jerusalem as they are occupied Palestinian territories.

"Israeli and Palestinian sides could agree on an acceptable formula such as making Jerusalem with its Israeli west part and Palestinian east part open city," suggested Moussa.

The Palestinian decision postponing the proclamation of Palestinian state was an evidence on Palestinian flexibility.
