Malaysian minister meets Jordanian Prince Faisal

Malaysian minister of International Trade and Industry Rafidah Aziz conferred in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday with Prince Faisal Al-Hussein, the heir apparent to the King of Jordan, Malaysian news agency BERNAMA reported.

Prince Faisal surveyed his country's economy and its industrial development during the talks that covered potential areas for cooperation between Jordan and Malaysia.

Rafidah is currently heading a trade and investment mission to the Middle East.

Meanwhile in Amman, the Malaysian delegation also had discussions with members of the Jordan Federation of Business Council and the Industrial Council of Amman, the statement said.

In a dialogue participated by representatives from the private sector, Rafidah explained the experience of Malaysia in facing the recent economic downturn.

Members of the business community in Jordan meanwhile have conveyed their interest in expanding their business to this country and have also invited Malaysian investors to go into joint-ventures with thier partners in Jordan.

The MITI statement said Jordan was currently in the process of signing a Free Trade Area agreement with the United States and saw that as opening opportunities to Malaysian investors to enter the US market through Jordan as the platform.

In her visit, Rafidah also met up with 195 Malaysia students studying in the country. During the visit, she explained to the students the country's present economic situation and the recovery it was making. She also advised them to take care of the country's name while abroad.
