Morocco's food products imports increase by 17.6 % in jan-july 2000

Moroccan imports of food products in the period between January and July 2000 were worth 7.97 Billion Dirhams (US $ 724 mln), marking an increase of 17.6% compared to 6.78 billion Dirhams-worth of food products imports in the corresponding period of 1999.
The Moroccan exchange board says in its latest newsletter the increase was mainly noted in imports of grains (54.1%), non-refined and refined vegetal oil (9.4%).
Grain imports, which reached 4.29 billion Dirhams (US $ 390 million), compared to 3.30 billion Dirhams (US $ 300.3 million) between Jan and July 99, have increased by 29.9% and their share in Morocco's total imports went up from 5.4% to 6.1%.
Sugar imports were worth 888.5 million DH (US$ 80.7 million), compared to 576.4 million DH (us $ 52.3 million) in Jan-July 99 and their share of total imports went up from 0.9% to 1.3%.
Imports of vegetal oil in Jan-July 2000 were worth 873 million DH (us $ 79.3 million), against 798 million DH (US $ 72.5 million) the previous year, keeping the same share (1.3%) of Moroccan total imports.
