Al-Azhar stand over Jerusalem
Regional, Politics, 9/12/2000

Al-Azhar University conference expressed support Sunday for Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's stand over Jerusalem issue, which is in the public interest of all Muslims and Christians.

President Mubarak has stressed that the holy city be placed under the Palestinian sovereignty, and called on international organizations to implement just and comprehensive peace.

Al-Azhar conference recommended, at the close of its meetings Sunday, the extending of further aid to Al-Azhar mosque and university to help the distinguished Islamic authority carry out its pioneer role in the service of Islam all over the world.

The conference recommended increasing the number of al-Azhar university faculties especially the religious ones which have no duplicate in other Egyptian universities, so as to enable the university qualify graduates required by Islamic states, mosques, and Islamic centres abroad.

At the end of its three-day meetings, the conference called for attaching utmost importance to the Arabic language and establishing centres for teaching it to non-Arabs in Egypt and abroad.

The World Islamic Council for Dawa and relief on Sunday stressed the importance of contributions granted by financial Islamic institutions and rich Muslims for boosting relief operations in the Islamic world.

The session tackled a project on enumerating Islamic endowments in Palestine and registering them to protect their Islamic identity and save them from being judaized, the declaration said.
