Jordanian concern for foreign finance of non governmental organizations
Jordan, Politics, 9/12/2000
The foreign finance of the non-governmental organizations raised a wide controversy lately in Jordan as protests especially from the left and Islamic trends see this as a cover attempt for violating the Jordanian sovereignty.
The controversy has increased lately following the removal of the journalists union of a membership of one of its members due to his being accused of receiving foreign finance for the "center of journalists' freedom and protection."
Saleh El-Amrouti - chief of the Jordanian lawyers - one of the strongest opposers to the foreign finance says that " those who pay surely get the loyalty of the those they support and this is considered a violation to the Jordanian sovereignty."
The criticized non-governmental organization are related to the defense of human rights and focus on women's issues and other research centers whose number have increased according to informal estimation in the last decade from 20 to 40 organizations in Jordan.
These organizations receive finance from governmental or non-governmental western agencies that are feared by some to be related to " international Zionism."
