On the Arab electricity grid project

The chairman of the Egyptian holding company for electricity Mustafa Sweidan has announced hat several experiments have been currently conducted to maintain electricity grid linkage between Syria and Jordan and between Syria and Turkey, adding these experiments will be completed by the year 2001, while work in the electricity grid between Syria and Lebanon will be completed by the year 2002.
In statements he made in Cairo following meetings he made with officials at the Libyan electricity company, Sweidan added the electricity grid project between Egypt and Libya has started since one and a half year and is expected to be completed in 2001.
These projects fall in the course of a plan aiming at linking each of Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco to a united electricity grid after which a study will be conducted on the possibility of linking the electricity grid of the al-Maghreb electricity grid to the united electricity grid which will link between the Arab electricity networking and Europe through Turkey, Greece and Italy to the east, besides linking the Arab electricity network to Spain via Morocco.
