Jordan to open its airspace with Iraq
Jordan-Iraq, Politics, 9/7/2000

Jordan's minister of transport Muhammad Klaydah said on Wednesday that Jordan is waiting the consent of the UN to open the airspace with Iraq next month, October.

In a statement he made on Wednesday following his meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Ahmad Murtada, the Jordanian minister said that his country is making talks with the UN aiming at opening the airspace before air navigation between Iraq and Jordan. He expected to receive the consent of the US over this issue next month.

Klaydah added that his talks with the Iraqi transport minister dealt with the issue of opening the airspace between Iraq and Jordan and the possibility of operating an air line between the two neighboring states.

Since 1990, Iraq has been under a multi-faceted international embargo, including an air embargo. An embargo which Iraq stressed it is not stated in the UN security council resolutions and called for not implementing it.
