Egypt-Regional, Politics, 9/6/2000
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak will address tomorrow the Millennium Summit, which will open today in New York under the aegis of the United Nations with the participation of 150 heads of states.
Foreign Minister Amr Moussa will deliver the speech on behalf of President Hosni Mubarak tomorrow.
"The speech covers means of facing poverty, ignorance, sickness and deteriorating development in the developed countries," said Moussa, in a statement before leaving Cairo for New York yesterday.
President Mubarak would also call for containing the civil wars, border disputes and decertification, Moussa added, noting that the Egyptian perspective towards developing the UN in the 21st Century is based on comprehensive and thorough negotiations on the new international orientations in the world.
"The final settlements in the Middle East region should hinge on the international legitimacy resolutions and acceptable solutions," he said.
Meanwhile, US President Bill Clinton is to inaugurate the Millennium Summit that is held at the UN headquarters in New York.
