The Arab summit to be held in March 2001
Regional, Politics, 9/5/2000

The secretary General of the Arab league (AL) Ismat Abdul Miguid yesterday announced that the council of the AL ministers approved " a project appendix to the AL charter provides for convening an Arab summit every year in March."

Meantime, the Arab foreign ministers concluded their meetings which lasted for two days in calling to continuing talks with Israel, according to the land for peace principle. The Arab ministers also called for recognizing the Palestinian state immediately after its declaration.

The AL chief added that the Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa called for convening a special meeting for the Arab foreign ministers in October in Cairo in order to study this " appendix," adding that " the AL member states will after this meeting approve the ratification measures." On Sunday the AL announced the next summit will be convened in March 2001.

The AL chief continued that after ratification the items of this appendix become valid and an integral part of the AL charter.

On revitalizing the decision of the Arab summits on severing Arab states relations with countries which will transfer their embassies to Jerusalem, Abdul Miguid said " there is a clear decision at the UN Security Council on not to transfer embassies to occupied Jerusalem and the US has to take into account international legitimacy resolutions."

On the besiege against Iraq, the Arab League chief stressed that the AL position is clear in demanding lifting the embargo imposed on the Iraq people, finding out a solution to the prisoners and missing.
