Arab states to severe relations with any country transfers its embassy from Tel Aviv
Palestine, Politics, 9/4/2000

The ministerial council of the Arab League has threatened in the final statement draft for its 114th session which started on Saturday to sever relations with any country which transfers its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. It called on the world to recognize the state of Palestine upon its declaration with Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement's project said: " the AL council reminds of the UN security council resolution 478 of 1980 which calls on all world countries not to transfer their embassies to Jerusalem and stresses the decision of the 11th Arab summit conference ( Amman 1980) which states to cut all relations with countries which transfer their embassies to Jerusalem or recognize it as a capital for israel."

The draft statement added: " any solution does not take into account the question of Jerusalem will not succeed." It called on the UN Security Council permanent states to recognize the state of Palestine and with Jerusalem as a capital when this state is declared as a commitment from the side of the UN Security Council to the right of people to self- determination."

It continued that " peace is a strategic option which stresses that the Arab nation is still very careful to achieve peace according to UN security council resolution 242." It renewed its backing to the right of the Palestinian people to practice complete sovereignty on all Palestinian territories especially Jerusalem and all Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 and to the establishment of the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as a capital so as the Palestinians will live in peace with their neighbors and " brothers" and work for maintaining progress, development and prosperity as other peoples of the world."

The draft projects which is due to be released today ( Monday) backs the demands made by the secretary general of the Lebanese foreign ministry Zuheir Hamdan in his speech at the inaugural session of the ministerial council who stressed the need of restoring the Lebanese sovereignty over the Shebaa farms and the need of immediate release of the lebanese detainees held by Israel, in a flagrant violation to the international law and lebanon's right to be compensated for the losses inflected on its as a result of 22 years of the Israeli occupation.
