Arab League chief discusses Arab human rights conditions

The Secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Ismat Abdul Miguid on Sunday in Cairo discussed with the chairman of the permanent Arab committee for human rights Khaled al-Naseri conditions of human rights in the Arab states and efforts made to improve them.

Following the meeting, al-Naseri said he had informed the AL secretary with the committee's work program for the coming stage and the efforts exerted to prepare for convening the 15th meeting for the committee during the coming weeks.

Al-Naseri explained that the committee seeks in co-ordination with the AL to intensify its efforts for backing the Palestinian people.

On the other hand, the AL chief said that the five- member Arab ministerial committee has approved the mechanism of convening annual Arab summits.

In statements he made in Cairo on Sunday, the AL chief explained that during Saturday's meeting the foreign ministers of the five Arab states discussed items of this proposal.

On Sunday evening, the Arab five-member ministerial committee in charge of drawing a special mechanism of periodical meetings for the Arab summit held a meeting. It was attended by the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara and the foreign ministers of Egypt, Oman, Tunisia and Yemen and the AL secretary general. The participants in the meeting discussed various items of the proposal to convene the Arab summit on the level of representation at the summit, its topics which are mainly linked to Arab national causes, and Arab national security in addition to procedural matters.
