On the relations between Syria and Lebanon
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 9/4/2000
Former Lebanese President Elias Hrawi has denied Lebanon to be a Syrian colony.
In a statement to the al-Sharq radio, al-Hrawi said that Syria has approved an agreement with Lebanon and Lebanon has to preserve its " dignity."
He added that this treaty organizes the relations with Syria and we " do not have to keep coming and going and coming to Damascus whenever any thing takes place in Lebanon because they Syrians have started to be annoyed of that."
Meantime, Lebanon's deputy premier and the minister of information Michael al-Murr said on Sunday replying to a question on the meetings made by President Bashar al-Assad recently with several Lebanese figures, al-Murr stressed that these meetings centered on the Lebanese- Syrian relations. He stressed that Syria does not interfere in the election operations in Lebanon.
In a press conference he held on Sunday afternoon in Beirut, al-Murr said I met with President Bashar al-Assad last Wednesday and we did not talks about the parliamentary election, rather we discussed Lebanese- Syrian relations which has no connection with the election process.
