Regional, Economics, 9/1/2000

The council of federations of Arab chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture will hold its 89th session in Fez, some 200 Km to the north-east of Rabat, September 18-19.

Some 150 delegates representing 22 federations will debate during the two day meeting the prospects of globalization which lowers customs barriers, opening thus the way to fierce competition.

Arab states should endeavor to materialize Arab economy complementarity and lay the bases to a strong Arab economy liable to take up the globalization challenges, said the chairman of the chamber of commerce, industry and services of the Fez-Boulemane region, during a preparatory meeting of the 89th session.

He underlined the need to set up a common Arab market to face up regional groupings and negotiate with others on the basis of respect and dignity.
