Morocco hosts first festival of Mediterranean folk arts

The Moroccan Northern city of Nador is playing host to the first festival of Mediterranean popular arts with the participation of troupes from several Mediterranean countries, including France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Macedonia and Switzerland.
The event-- held August 29 through September 2--features dance shows and exhibitions on local art. Jewels and ornaments, costumes, earthenware and everyday life utensils from the Riff region, a Moroccan Mountainous region bordering on the Mediterranean, are on display.
Participants will also be acquainted with local social celebrations such as wedding festivities.
Part of the festival, an evening party for Moroccan children living abroad is to be held this Friday in the eastern city of Oujda.
Folk art troupes from several regions of Morocco are participating in the festival that is meant to consolidate artistic and cultural ties between Mediterranean countries.
Several participants have pleaded to make of the festival an annual event.
