New Somali president arrives in Makadishu
Somalia-Djibouti, Politics, 8/31/2000

New Somalia President Abdul Qasem Salat Hassan on Wednesday arrived in Baledoghli airport, 90 Km to the west of Makadishu coming from Djibouti. He immediately headed to the Somali capital escorted by almost 100 cars carrying armed men.

The arrival of the Somali President who was on Sunday elected as President for the country after 10 years of war and disorder after the collapse of President Seyad berri is considered risky as three of the main war leaders in Makadishu are standing against him.

Upon his arrival at Makadishu airport the new President was welcomed by thousands of citizens who raised the flags of Somalia and Djibouti as the President of Djibouti had supervised the peace in Somalia.

Meantime, the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh on Wednesday in Sanaa met with four war leaders who oppose the new President in his efforts to maintain national reconciliation.

The Yemeni President made talks with the leaders of war Hussein Muhammad Aided, Othman Ali ( known as Atu), Hassan Haj and Mawlid Maani.

This step falls in the course of the efforts made by Yemeni to complete the Somalia reconciliation march already started in Arta ( Djibouti).

Earlier a Yemeni official source said the four Somali war leaders arrived in Sanaa to hear the Yemeni view point in order to achieve comprehensive national reconciliation among various Somali factions.
