Israel warns Europe against backing declaration of Palestinian state
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/31/2000
Israel has warned Europe against announcing its backing to the establishment of a Palestinian state.
In its Tuesday's issue, the British daily " Financial Times" quoted Shloumo Bin Ami, the acting Israeli foreign minister as warning the European Union against backing the Palestinian side if it will declare the establishment of a Palestinian state unilaterally.
Bin Ami, currently making a tour on Europe, said in an interview with the said paper, " A Palestinian who he thinks that Israel has to give more concessions and the Palestinian will be ultimately mistaken," noting that Israel's flexibility in the negotiations with the Palestinians reached its maximum.
Bin Ami added that the Palestinians should avail the opportunity available now to sign a peace agreement with Israel and he simultaneously renewed Israel's rejection to respond to UN resolutions on the need of Israel's withdrawal from the occupied lands of 1967, stressing that Israel deliberately refuses to give up concessions in this regard.
Bin Ami repeated his threats against the Palestinians and warned them against the consequences of " their unrealistic dreams."
