Sidi Belkacem I well contains 7.5 to 10 mln barrels, oil company chief
Morocco, Economics, 8/30/2000

The Sidi Belkacem I well, the sole one so far dug by Lone Star company, contains 7.5 to 10 million barrels of oil, Ms. Amina Benkhadra, head of the Moroccan oil company ONAREP, said.

The well in addition to two others (Sidi Belkacem II and Sidi Belkacem III) can have an oil potential of 50 to 100 million oil equivalent barrels in reserves, Benkhadra told the Moroccan second TV channel 2M.

The official, who was appointed last week as ONAREP chief by King Mohammed VI following the announcement of oil find in Talsint (eastern Morocco), said other drilling operations are scheduled. She added that Lone Star Energy is drilling in four other areas. The ONAREP chief said drilling works will be accelerated in the four areas, namely Loukous (northern Morocco), Onara (near Essaouira, 450 km south of Rabat), Lebrouj, and the Safi-Rabat offshore area.
