Morocco hails as brave and wise Nicaragua's decision to freeze recognition of sahrawi republic
Morocco, Politics, 7/22/2000
"Moroccan officials hailed on Friday Nicaragua's decision to freeze recognition of the puppet Sahrawi republic 'SADR' as wise and brave," MAP reported.
Morocco's prime minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, thanked at a dinner banquet hosted in honor of Nicaragua's vice president, who is on an official visit to Morocco, Managua for its "wise and historic" decision that "brings additional and crystal-clear evidence to Nicaragua's attachment to legality and the respect of international law."
Morocco is satisfied at the decision which is a positive step through which Nicaragua supports international legality and observes strict neutrality on the issue until the referendum result, said Youssoufi who recalled that Morocco recovered its southern provinces in conformity with international law and that it was the one behind the initiative to organize a referendum under the UNO aegis.
He also announced that Morocco has suppressed the visa requirement for Nicaraguans wishing to visit the kingdom, in a bid to consolidate Morocco-Nicaragua relations and promote rapprochement between the two peoples. Youssoufi added that the agreements providing for political consultations between the two diplomacies and for economic and cultural cooperation signed on the same day are adequate legal tools to give impetus to bilateral cooperation and to increase trade exchanges and cultural cooperation.
He added that the two countries have maintained solid cooperation and solidarity, recalling the Moroccan assistance to the country which was hit by the Mitch cyclone in 1998.
