Moroccan premier hopes Qatar would reconsider its stand towards Morocco
Qatar-Morocco, Politics, 7/22/2000
Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi expressed hope that Qatar would reconsider its stand vis-a-vis Morocco.
"We hope that the state of Qatar would reconsider its attitude vis-a-vis Morocco and show willingness to preserve the brotherly relations binding us to all brotherly countries," said Youssoufi in a statement to the Moroccan second TV channel 2M.
Morocco blames the officials of sisterly Qatar for some of their behaviors, Youssoufi said adding that Morocco's decision to recall its ambassador to Doha for consultation has "a significance on the diplomatic level and a special impact." "We must await the result of the measure," he said.
Morocco announced last Tuesday that it was recalling its ambassador to Doha for consultation "having lately noted with amazement and regret the various stands and attitudes adopted by the brotherly country of Qatar, both at the political and at the media levels."
A well-informed Moroccan source explained later on that Morocco's decision to recall its ambassador to Doha for consultation, came in response to Qatar's persistence to run counter to Moroccan interests and to its negative stands within international and regional organizations.
Among these negative stands, the source mentioned Qatar's opposition to Morocco's candidate to the post of secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Conference and its position regarding Morocco's candidacy to host the 2006 soccer world cup.
The source added that Morocco was also blaming Qatar for using its media to disinformation ends with the aim to harm the kingdom's sacred institutions and values, to deal a blow to Morocco's dignity and to cast doubt on its vital rights and legitimate claims, including the perfecting of its territorial integrity, MAP reported.
