Azmi Beshara, the Palestinian democratic front cling to principles
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 7/22/2000

The Arab member in the Israeli Knesset ( parliament) Azmi Beshara on Friday in Damascus met with a delegation representing the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) led by Abu Ali Mustafa. The two sides stressed the need of committing to Palestinian national principles in the Camp David negotiations.

The spokesman for the front Maher al-Taher said that a delegation including him and Abu Ali Hassan from the front's political bureau met with Bershara and that talks dealt with current developments, especially in the Camp David between the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and the Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak under the auspices of the US.

The two sides agreed the need " of committing to Palestinian national principles and that peace cannot be attained between the Israelis and the Palestinians unless the right of the Palestinian refugees, demolishing Zionist settlements in the Palestinian lands and establishing the sovereign Palestinian state are achieved."

Today, Beshara will meet in Damascus with the former chairman of the Palestinian National council Khaled al-Fahoum.

Beshara arrived in Damascus on Wednesday leading a delegation from his party " the democratic national coalition" to take part in the eulogy held on Thursday to mark the elapse of the 40- day death of the late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad.
