Saudi Arabia deports 1,000 Nigerians
Saudi Arabia-Nigeria, Economics, 7/21/2000
Saudi Arabian authorities have deported more than 1,000 Nigerians in the past few weeks under a new law empowering security agencies to clamp down on illegal immigrants, according to Nigerian media reports.
The latest batch of 221 deportees arrived Wednesday at the Aminu Kano international airport, in the northern city of Kano, aboard a Nigeria airways' flight.
Under the law, which came into effect July 3, any foreigner arrested without valid residence work permit would be immediately sent to a detention camp to await deportation.
