Hanover universal fair marks Morocco's day
Morocco, Economics, 7/21/2000
Morocco's Princess Lalla Hasna, youngest sister of King Mohammed VI, chaired this Friday Morocco's day at the Hanover universal fair "Expo 2000."
The Moroccan pavilion, extending over 1,344 square meters, is a representation of a traditional Moroccan city with its small streets, whitewashed houses, gardens, fountains, squares and bazaars. It highlights Morocco's conciliation between the present and the past, its situation at the crossroads between Europe and Africa.
Morocco displays three thematic stands: its know-how in irrigation, action for forest conservation and sea wealth preservation. Water, forests and sea are thus presented "life resources" that should be sustained and safeguarded.
A rich music program is scheduled, featuring Moroccan folk and modern music and other music types representing various regions of the kingdom.
Despite a weak affluence to the fair, compared to initial projections of 40 million, the Moroccan pavilion attracts daily an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 visitors.
Princess Lalla Hasna arrived in Hanover Thursday.
