$ 750 million for building houses in Iraq
Iraq, Politics, 7/21/2000

Iraqi trade minister Mohammed Mahdi Saleh declared that Baghdad specialized nearly $ 750 million from the income of the oil-for-food agreement signed with United Nations for solving the housing problem.

Saleh said to the weekly "Refedeen" that Iraq imported a million tons of the iron used in the building purposes.

The trade ministry has stated this month that it will sell building material to the Iraqis for half the commercial price.

There is no statistics about the homeless in Iraq, yet official sources state that this problem has increased since the international sanctions on Iraq due to its invasion to Kuwait in August 1990.
