Egypt opposes foreign interference in Sudan's affairs
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 7/18/2000

Egypt's President Mubarak asserted that Egypt opposes any foreign interference in Sudan's affairs and is aware of the risks posed by such interference to Sudan's territorial integrity. The President reiterated Egypt's stance which calls for activating the dialogue between the Sudanese factions so as to fulfill reconciliation and stop bloodshed.

This came during President Mubarak's meeting yesterday with Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Ossman Ismael who conveyed to the President a message from Sudanese President Omar Hassan AL Basheer on the latest developments on eastern frontiers and in southern regions as well as the current developments in the Sudan.

Foreign Minister Amr Moussa referred to coordination with Libya on the Egypt-Libya joint peace plan to bring all the south leaders, including SPLA leader John Garang, to the table of negotiations and solve the internal problems and the fighting that claims more than a million of lives.

Moussa indicated that a joint Egypt-Sudan committee is to convene on September 2 to review all files and pursue invigorating relations.

The Foreign Minister pointed out that Egypt is making contacts with the various opposition factions, including the National Democratic Alliance, Ummah Party of Sadek Mahdi, John Garang, and the other south leaders, to activate dialogue.
