Prime Minister Atef Ebeid said that the Republican decree issued by President Hosni Mubarak amending some rules of the law on the practice of political rights was an unprecedented watershed in the history of the democratic system.
"These amendments are in confirmity with the Peoples's Assembly demand that there should be direct supervision by the judiciary on the electoral process," Ebeid added .
In a statement to the People's Assembly Sunday, Ebeid said: "We face a tough task that needs an abundance in human and financial resources, efficiency in administration and pooling all our concerted efforts to fulfil the goals worthy of our sacrifices".
" According to President Mubarak's directives the government will not spare any effort to guarantee that the (electoral) process is sound and is wholly supervised by the judiciary," Ebeid expounded.
